FAQ

.: What is Proof Center?

DeviceAnywhere Proof Center is a platform that allows you to validate and certify your mobile content and applications against test criteria proscribed by the carrier, aggregator or application store where you would like to offer your content. DeviceAnywhere has worked closely with these partner organizations to build an easy-to-follow process that allows you to self-test your content and submit the results directly to the certification authority.

.: What certification programs are offered through Proof Center?

As of the initial launch of Proof Center on June 8th 2009, developers can certify their MMS campaigns for Verizon through OpenMarket in Proof Center. More programs are constantly being added; click here to see the latest list of available certification partners and their programs.

.: How does it work?

Because Proof Center is built on top of DeviceAnywhere, all of your testing and certification can be completed in one interface. In this interface you will see:

1) The set of devices to test your application or content on

2) The set of test steps that you must complete on each device, with detailed directions

3) The proof required for each test step (e.g. screen shot or video)

Your test results are then uploaded to the Proof Center Results Website, and are viewable by you and the certification authority.

.: How does using Proof Center help me?

Certifying applications can sometimes be a long, arduous, and mystifying process. Through working closely with our partners, DeviceAnywhere Proof Center provides a transparent and straightforward way for developers to ensure that they are testing to the exact specifications required by the carrier, app store, or content aggregator. These partners supply the tests that they require to certify your content for market. You execute against these tests, and the proof of your successful execution is available for the partner to see.

As a result, you have confidence that you are testing the right functionality; the partner has confidence that your content or application will meet their requirements, and the time-consuming back-and-forth typical with mobile applications is minimized. In addition, in the case of any discrepancy, all the proof of the tests is available to both parties, as a common ground for discussion of capabilities or issues.

.: What if I’m not ready for the partner to see my test results?

You control when results are submitted to the partner. If you feel your test is not quite complete, and you are not ready to submit results, then you can keep them private to your account as long as you want!

.: How do I sign up?

Participating partners will typically have a link on their developer program site where you can sign up for Proof Center. If you are not sure if the mobile operator, app store, or content aggregator that you are working with is a participating partner of Proof Center, ask them, or send us an email at DASales@deviceanywhere.com.

.: What types of content or applications can be certified through Proof Center?

Any type of content or application can be testing in Proof Center. Because Proof Center is part of DeviceAnywhere, and therefore provides access to test your content on real devices in live networks, any tests that you can perform with a device in your hand can be performed in Proof Center.

.: I’m new to DeviceAnywhere – how does it all work?

DeviceAnywhere allows users to interact with real devices, over the internet. Using our patented technology, Direct-to-Device™, users can send input directly to a device (press keys, touch screens, play audio, control hardware like open/close flip phone, remove battery, power on/off), and will receive all output from the device (screens, sounds) right on their computer screen. All you need is DeviceAnywhere Studio (a downloadable software client) on your computer, and an internet connection!

.: What does it cost?

All customers new to DeviceAnywhere will start with a free DeviceAnywhere Proof Center trial, with a number of hours provided by the certification program partner. There is no cost or obligation.

If your company then decides to sign up for Proof Center, you will be charged a $20/hour flat rate for time used on devices, rounded up to the nearest 1/10th of an hour (e.g. a 26-minute device session rounds up to 30).

.: What if I’m already a DeviceAnywhere customer?

Existing DeviceAnywhere customers that sign up for Proof Center through a partner will be able to use the hourly rate associated with their existing account. This hourly rate is typically less than $20/hour, as a minimum commitment of monthly hours is required.

.: What resources and training are available?

DeviceAnywhere Proof Center customers can utilize the following resources:

User Manuals: Customers can use the DeviceAnywhere Proof Center User Manual. In addition, to get familiar with basic DeviceAnywhere functionality, the DeviceAnywhere Quick Start Guide is available. All user manuals and supporting documentation can be found on the home page of MyDeviceAnywhere (the website that you see when you log in from http://www.deviceanywhere.com.)

DeviceAnywhere Support: Our support team is available 24X7 to answer any questions you have. You can contact them by emailing DASupport@deviceanywhere.com, or calling 1-877-device-0, and selecting option 2.

Aside from manuals and support, we host monthly webinars that describe DeviceAnywhere functionality. You can find out the schedule for the next webinar by logging into your account from http://www.deviceanywhere.com. In addition, your account manager will send you an email soon after you sign up, and they can also be contacted about any issues.

.: Do the certification programs ever change? If so, what happens?

This is one of the great benefits of DeviceAnywhere Proof Center; if a partner wants to add a new test to their certification program, they can easily do so within our system and the new program is immediately available to all users. All new certification runs will be executed against the new program.

If a user happens to be in the middle of testing on a device when the program changes, they will get a notification and will have the option to continue with that device under the old program, or to switch to the new program, in which case their old test results on that device would be discarded.
